BUHARI REFUSESS TO SIGN PEACE CORPS BILL

President Muhammadu Buhari signing

President Muhammadu Buhari has declined his assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill passed by the National Assembly in 2017.
In a letter read by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday, Mr. Buhari cited security concerns and financial implications amongst reasons for his decision.
The bill has been widely anticipated by many Nigerians who believe the creation of the corps will partly address the nation’s unemployment crisis.
The bill had in late December 2017 arrived the Presidency for possible assent after it was transmitted to President Buhari by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Omolori.
The Senate had passed the bill on November 25, 2016, shortly after the House of Representatives passed the same bill.
A conference committee of both chambers was inaugurated on December 8, 2016, to harmonise the bill.
The House of Representatives laid and adopted its conference report on January 19, 2017, while the Senate adopted its report on July 25, 2017.
The law sought to give legal backing to the establishment of peace Corps as a government parastatal, and allow all serving members of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, both regular and volunteers, to be absolved into the proposed organisation at commencement.

The Nigerian police had remained opposed to the legalisation of the corps. On February 17, 2017, it stormed the organisation’s headquarters in Abuja and arrested its head, Dickson Akoh, and about 49 other members.
The police accused Mr. Akoh of using the Peace Corps, registered as a non-governmental organisation, to swindle young job seekers and operate as a para-military agency.

Mr. Akoh, who denied the allegations, was later granted bail.
The Federal High Court in Abuja subsequently ordered the Nigeria Police to unseal the headquarters of the Peace Corps and pay N12.5 million as damages.

VP Yemi Osinbajo in UAE for vacation

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently in the United Arab Emirates where he is observing his vacation.
According to his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, in a tweet Wednesday, Mr. Osinbajo left the country alongside his wife and children.
“VP Osinbajo, his wife & children have been resting abroad on his annual leave. He is expected back in the country this weekend from the UAE,” Mr. Akande said.
This is probably the first time since the coming of the Buhari Administration that Mr. Osinbajo is enjoying his annual leave.
He has been a very busy official as well as acting president when Mr. Buhari spent the better part of 2017 on medical vacation in London, UK.
It is a common joke at the Presidential Villa whenever the vice president was chairing any meeting, especially, the Federal Executive Council, FEC, that “people will be here all day.”

Trump gets dog statue in China

People walk past a statue of a dog, with a resemblance to US President Donald Trump, outside a shopping mall in Taiyuan, in China's northern Shanxi province. Photo: AFP
A mall in northern China has installed a larger-than-life canine statue with more than a passing resemblance to US President Donald Trump to welcome the coming Year of the Dog.
The giant pooch towers above shoppers in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, sporting a slick golden pompadour, angled brows and a red scarf with one index finger raised in a distinctly Trumpian manner.
As he was born in 1946, Trump, who has been accused of having more bark than bite, is a dog under the Chinese zodiac — a trait which he shares with his predecessors George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

Last year the mall erected a large Trump-like rooster, which inspired numerous replicas, including a giant inflatable one placed not far from the White House this summer.

Bad Boy;Neymar Orders UEFA To Kick Barcelona Out Of Champions League(See Why)

PSG forward, Neymar, has urged UEFA to kick Barcelona out of the Champions League for
withholding his bonus.

Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona last summer
for a world-record £222m fee.
According to Spanish outlet, AS, the Brazilian believes his father should have received a
loyalty payment, after he put off his transfer until after July 31 – the move was eventually
completed on August 3.

Barca refused to pay the £23m fee to Neymar Snr., claiming that an agreement to extend
Neymar’s contract at the Nou Camp had been
reneged.

As a result, Neymar instructed his lawyers to take strong action against Barca, including
getting them ejected from the Champions League.
The European football governing body, however,
quickly rejected Neymar’s request.
